Our Location
To mark our re-opening in Dundrum:
Built on land that was once a mink farm, the old Dundrum Shopping Centre opened in 1971. The centre quickly established itself as a bustling shopping area and also as a place for the locals to convene and trade stories in Bewleys, which was here from the centres opening. Regular visitors also developed relationships with the traders built on familiarity and trust. So much so that it was common practice for shops to give store credit once the customer was known to be good for repayment...at some stage!
As times changed through the 70's, 80's and 90's, so did the stores. Bewleys became Brambles, Midland Meats became Nyhans, Quinnsworth became Tesco and Alan King became Noel Reid - Fashion For Men but the fundamental values of all the traders stayed the same - high quality personal service.
However with changing times came the arrival of better times in the form of the 'Celtic Tiger'. This era brought huge changes to Dundrum, and indeed most of the country, in residential and shopping developments. With this came the building of the Dundrum Town Centre which opened its doors in 2005.
The Dundrum Shopping Centre continued to trade as usual but most of its tenants were vacated pending future developments in the area.
So it came to pass that only three units remained - Nyhans, McCann's Dry Cleaners and Noel Reid - Fashion For Men. Noel Reid being the very last to leave, closing their doors in January 2009.
But as the 'Celtic Tiger' had led to the countries most prosperous times so the dreaded 'R' word has led to some of its most difficult. Building had ground to a halt and proposed developments were deferred. As time went by it was decided to re-let units in the Dundrum Shopping Centre.
Renamed the Dundrum Village Centre, Lidl were the first to open in July 2009. Other units were quick to open and now the centre is back in full swing with a mixture of new shops available, but also with a couple of familiar faces.
